Position Information

Job Title Student Assistant (Field Tech - HCFCD Project)

General Description

This is a student position responsible for performing field work and other duties necessary to assist Graduate student on his research project. Most job functions will require the use of varying levels of physical exertion. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The job will be done on Jan. 25 – 27, 2019.

Job Duties

  1. Perform field work consisting of planting bareroot seedlings across a 1300 acre site.
  2. Must follow instructions.
  3. Assists Graduate student in tasks necessary to complete the seedling planting project.
  4. May perform work in varying environmental conditions occurring in winter.
  5. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications

*Hiring Environmental Science or Forestry Majors Only. *Experience planting seedlings is a plus. *Experience operating a mule atv is a plus (must have SFA MUV Operator Certification). *Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

Physical Demands

*Ability to perform work in varying environmental conditions including WINTER COLD, wind, and rain. *Must be able to tolerate the elements of outdoors with the presence of bugs, insects, poison ivy, brush/briars, etc. *Must be able to lift 50 pounds. *Must be willing to walk at a brisk pace and carry equipment. *Must be able to work 8 hour shifts. *Must be able to walk across a 1300 acre site. *Must be available to travel to Houston area for work and overnight stays Jan. 25 – 27, 2019 (lodging and meals will be covered by project).

Special Conditions for Eligibility

A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
