If selected for this position, you will serve as a Paralegal Specialist in the United States Attorney's Office, Middle District of Alabama. Duties will include:
Reviews appellants' briefs and inmates' 28 U.S.C. § 2255 motions and identifies issues raised.
Conducts factual and legal research in a variety of legal databases, to analyze the information obtained from that research, and to prepare written responses to issues based on that research and analysis.
Provides research assistance and advice to Criminal Division supervisory and line Assistant United States Attorney's (AUSAs) on cases involving criminal jurisdiction.
Works closely with the Appellate Chief, manages the criminal appellate calendar to ensure that all matters are assigned to the appropriate AUSAs.
Enters notices of appearances on behalf of AUSAs.
Proofreads all briefs and responses before filing by AUSAs.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level.
Examples of specialized experiences may include the following: ability to research, develop and prepare in final form appellate briefs, court briefs, memorandum of law and responses; write a final product in a concise manner which articulates the issues; conducts legal research concerning precedents and past-court decisions; ability to prepare and analyze legal documents such as complaints, responses, briefs, or advisory options; perform research and locate information by searching for legal precedents in opinions, existing legal files, textbooks, legal periodicals, statutes, regulations, and court rules.
The preferred candidate must have highly developed writing skills and have performed extensive and computerized legal research to effectively advocate the government's position by presenting facts and legal arguments in a logical, lucid, persuasive manner in order to prepare clear and concise various legal documents, such as legal memos, briefs, complaints, or advisory opinions.
