Job Summary:

The Senior Virtualization Engineer will be a member of the existing level III operational engineering team. The candidate will be responsible for supporting a geographically distributed high-availability Citrix infrastructure, for a large financial institution.

Major Responsibilities:

  • The candidate will be involved in designing, supporting and implementing a range of virtualization products. Including but not limited to:

o Citrix XenApp / XenDesktop 6.x / 7.x

o Director



o Storefront

o Web interface

o Delivery Controllers NetScalers (physical and virtual)

o Microsoft Terminal Services

o Microsoft APPV

o VMWare vSphere and other various related tools in order to support and maintain a virtual desktop and application delivery infrastructure.

  • The candidate will need to be comfortable working on storage and hyper converged technologies such as Nutanix and Cisco UCS.

  • The candidate will perform all aspects of Level 3 Citrix support activities, for the company's global Citrix Infrastructure. Which includes but not limited to capacity planning, monitoring, and performance tuning.

  • The position will be a senior position, performing project engineering roles, responsible for understanding, evaluating, and recommending solutions based on the business requirements.

  • The candidate will interface with company vendor partners to resolve hardware and or software problems.

  • The candidate will assist in technical development in defining and developing solutions, by providing guidance on the functionality and/or limitations of the various environments, platforms, and infrastructure systems used by the company.

  • The candidate will support junior level support staff with the tools and documentation necessary to support the virtual environment and other IT personnel.

  • The candidate must be able to adhere to strict IT security policies and processes including change management/Change Control for industry standards compliancy.

  • Duties also include performing quality assurance of all changes before they are implemented in the production environment.

  • Taking full ownership of all projects assigned, and will work with various teams to resolve any operational production related incidents.

  • The candidate will be required to proactively monitor and maintain the Citrix environment. This includes but is not limited to applying Citrix updates, fixes and general patching maintenance.

  • The engineer will be required to provide reporting metrics on system information using scripts and automation tools.

  • The position will share an on-call support role based on rotation with the existing staff.

  • The candidate will need working knowledge with Roaming profiles, Group policy, SQL, IIS, Windows Servers and Active Directory.


  • Successful candidates will have performed numerous virtualization engineering activities. From small to very large environments, with hands on experience on many different virtual systems, applications and technologies.

  • The engineer will be required to have strong windows scripting and or programming language abilities. Providing better departmental automation, and reporting for operational process improvement.

  • Citrix APP Layering experience using layers preferred but not mandatory.

  • Experience with migrations to public clouds (AWS, Azure, GC, Office 365) is preferred

  • 8-10 years of related support experience working in large corporate environments is required.

  • Expert/ Architectural experience implementing, deploying, and supporting Citrix and VMWARE technologies

  • Experience managing Storage Area Network and Hyper-Converged Solutions (Nutanix, NetApp, HP 3Par or HP Moonshot.)

  • Working hands on experience with Windows OS technologies (Win7, Win10, Win2K8, Win2K12, Win2K16)

  • Experience with Zero or thin client devices (Dell or HP)

  • A demonstrated ability in successful problem-solving and management of multiple tasks/priorities
