Martin Sprocket & Gear Machine Operator 1 (CAN) in Mississauga, Canada

To perform this job successfully, you must be able to report daily to the company's Edmonton, Alberta branch to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable Accommodations may be made to enable qualified candidates with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Set up and operate variety of machines including:

  • Operate various Manual Lathes to bore and face steel parts

  • Operate Radial drill to drill and tap holes into large steel parts.

  • Operate Mitts & Merrill keyseater to machine keyways into sprockets, gears, couplings

  • Heat treat steel parts.

  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints or study sample parts for machining steps to be performed and plans process.

  • Measure examine, test completed parts in order to ensure conformance to specification using inspection instruments

  • Ensure the quality of parts produced meet the specified print and standard process control guidelines.

  • Report any safety concerns to supervisor/management.

  • Maintain all shop equipment and report any failures or problems to your supervisor immediately.

  • Martin will provide through training with an opportunity to further develop your skills in other departments.


  • Machine shop experience or mechanical aptitude

  • Must be able to work shift: Monday - Friday 7:30am – 5:00pm

  • Experience with grinding tools and drill press a plus

  • Simple oral communication skills; ability to read and comprehend instructions written in English and complete simple logs and reports in English

  • Must be physically able to handle heavy items including lifting, pushing, pulling, and positioning components

  • Must be able to work scheduled hours and comply with the company's timekeeping policy and all other company policies

  • Must be able to consistently stand for entire shift

  • General mechanical knowledge a plus

  • Ability to work in a team setting
