General Electric Sr UX Visual Designer in Miami, Florida

Role Summary:

The Digital Workplace Senior UX Visual Designer will be responsible for working closely with the Digital Workplace Solutions team to drive design and development of enabling tools that allow employees to self-serve across their technologies, including the provisioning and management of their core technology platforms. They will work in various ecosystems to improve the overall experience and deliver additional capability across existing tools to our end user community.

Essential Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate with product management and engineering to define and implement innovative solutions for the product direction, visuals and experience

  • Execute all visual design stages from concept to final hand-off to engineering

  • Conceptualize original ideas that bring simplicity and user friendliness to complex design roadblocks

  • Present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and executive level stakeholders

  • Help establish and promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards

  • Contribute to a visual and interaction design system used across GE software products

  • Research and evaluate emerging design, technology, industry, and market trends

  • Lead and influence business-wide discussions relative to current user experience projects and the future direction of design and user experience

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Agile / Lean UX methodologies

Qualifications/Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), HCI, CS or in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) related field AND A minimum 4 years of professional experience

  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Miami, FL

Desired Characteristics:

Domain Expertise:

  • Leverages typography, color, layout, composition and materiality to create visual interface designs that clearly and effectively express product capabilities and behaviors, as well as business and product brand values

  • Develops visual language studies that explore multiple approaches to the overall aesthetic of a product, with regard to brand and experience values and underlying product capability and behavior

  • Creates visual design specifications and documentation that provide detailed instructions for developers regarding typography, spacing, color and other aspects of a product’s user interface

  • Creates multiple variations to a single design component to explore how different treatments meet design requirements and brand/experience goals

  • Explains and defends design decisions to other members of the project team including developers, product managers, marketers and other designers

  • Constructively participates in critiques of own design ideas and those of others

  • Designs new components to contribute to design systems, documents intended usage

  • Skilled in standard design tools (Adobe CC, OmniGraffle, Sketch), hand drawing and visual communication, familiar with time-based and interactive prototyping tools (Hype, Adobe Edge, Keynote)

  • Understands the implications of digital display and software technologies and for visual interface design

  • Uses participatory design activities (e.g. paper prototype co-creation, card sorting) to understand vision, business model and assumptions and tacit knowledge about user needs and behaviors

  • Conducts user research to understand user needs, mental models, and working contexts

  • Synthesizes output of stakeholder research & creates visualizations that effectively summarize key insights related to user and customer needs and behaviors, product definition

  • Creates annotated prototypes of user interface designs that visually and textually communicate the behavior of a software application

  • Experience designing, organizing, and curating web content

  • Experience conducting usability testing across a wide range of user groups

  • Background in working with application internationalization and best practices associated with appreciation of creating reusable components and how to organize and structure a component library

  • Demonstrates knowledge of business products, key processes, suppliers, customers and market/competitors. Understands the competitive landscape, regulatory marketing, etc.

  • Creates artifacts to facilitate shared understanding of business benefit for stakeholders

  • Works to create an understanding of how individual people and things fit within larger structures (like systems or organizations), as well as the relationships between parts of a system and the system as a whole

Leadership:

  • Continuously measures deliverables of self and team against scheduled commitments. Effectively balances different, competing objectives

  • Goes beyond merely presenting functional information, explains the story of the rationale and benefit of their ideas. Uses relevant and appropriate presentation techniques
