Measures, cuts and constructs using standard building materials. Independently plans and completes projects that involve constructing, altering, repairing and/or modifying framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, interior/exterior trim, staircases, trusses and beams. Spacing, accuracy and fit are essential structural soundness or appearance is important. Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs and modified routine mill work, framing, benches, partitions, tables, furniture, etc. Performs work to close tolerances, exact fit, and structural soundness. Carpentry work may include but not limited to the following:
- Operate and use a wide variety of specialty woodworking machines and tools. Operate and use a variety of tools by setting up, adjusting and maintaining tools to required specifications as well
- Plan, measure and layout carpentry materials using broad knowledge or wood materials and substitutes with general precision woodworking techniques
- Plan, measure and layout carpentry materials using typical shop mathematics for complex and exact projects and using general and specialized tools and equipment of various building trades and inspects patient wards as it pertains to general maintenance
- Work will include all basic troubleshooting and repair of various systems such as plumbing, oil and gas distribution systems, steam system troubleshooting and repair including backflow prevention valves, steam control valves, radiators and coils, fire sprinkler systems, and repair of tubs and showers
- Works from building plans, blueprints and sketches, to plan and layout the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall and proper operation of systems and equipment. Uses tools and equipment such as plumb bobs, mercury gauges, dividers, closet augers, hydrostatic pumps and lead pots
- General maintenance examples: lock maintenance, installing ceiling tiles, lights/fixtures, painting and hanging various office fixtures
