How you’ll contribute

Assist a lead scientist in evaluating material properties, formulating material, and optimizing print resolution of ink formulation. Work with scientists to prepare printed scaffolds and fluidic components for perfusion and prepare for cellularization.

Support the development of methods to produce 3D-printed lung scaffolds and airways suitable for recellularization including in-house development and active management of external partners to meet project milestones.

Coops are educational positions requiring basic knowledge and understanding of (bio)material science fundamentals, 3D printing processes, and manufacturing to support research and development in production of 3D-printed lung scaffolds suitable for recellularization. This coop will include a project/deliverable that will be completed during employment and will utilize academic foundations to further career aspirations.

  • Validate resolution of ink formulation in Digital Light Projection (DLP) 3D printing system.

  • Design and modify printing process in DLP 3D printing

  • Alter/modify parameters of the printer to get highest quality objects

  • Evaluate material properties of printed objects using DMA

  • Evaluate surface topography using optical profiler

  • Independently evaluate and develop microfluidic assays, including required tooling, fixtures, and calibration

  • Interact with members of the Organ Manufacturing Group, as well as other Company cross-functional groups as needed

  • Interface with external consultants and collaborators, vendors, and testing subcontractors as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned

For this role you will need

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least a rising undergraduate junior and actively enrolled student in an academic program for the duration of the assignment; pursuing BA/BS degree in Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering discipline

  • Experience working in wet lab

  • Experience with statistical data analysis

  • Knowledge and understanding of fundamental of DLP/SLA 3D printing, design and building mechanical and fluidic systems based on additive manufacturing applications

  • Materials science knowledge in hydrogels and material characterization.

  • Experience with scripting/automation (python/MATLAB/Mathematical preferred)

  • Experience with Finite Element Method with COMSOL

  • Ability to travel minimally as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled student in a MS or PhD program in Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering discipline

  • Experience with microfluidic fabrication and sensing modalities

  • Experience with material property testing with DMA/ DSC and Photo-DSC, Rheometer

  • Experience printing with DLP 3D printer

  • Experience with microfluidic fabrication and leak testing

  • Experience with SOLIDWORKS/CAD
