Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a Medical Scientists Lead in HIV Therapeutic Area in Spain. This position is field based and will cover all Spanish territory.

Main responsibility is to coordinate and support a MSs team, empowering them to take and make decisions and support the team as necessary. Each MS is allocated in specific geographic regions across Spain.

Specific Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

  • Heads a team of MSs (field based). Provides direction and strategies to the team based on organizational goals and company policy.

  • Coaches, oversees and conducts performance evaluations of Medical Scientists via active observation of the team; establishment of clearly defined team and individual goals & objectives (quantitative and qualitative); implementation of processes to routinely monitor progress Coordinates Medical Sciences participation in Gilead advisory boards, symposia and educational programs, such as speaker training and conference planning.

  • Executes strategic plans consistent with the Therapeutic Area Medical Affairs Plan of Action (POA).

  • Responsible for ensuring the successful dissemination of innovative clinical information to thought-leaders and foster medical and scientific information exchange from and throughout the specific disease communities.

  • Delivers timely, accurate and succinct communication of fair-balanced clinical and scientific presentations to healthcare professionals, both proactively and in response to requests for information, consistent with promotional compliance and regulatory requirements.

  • Develops and maintains positive professional relationships with current and emerging therapeutic area thought-leaders based on mutual respect and Gilead’s sincere interest in sharing its perspective on medical therapies. This includes but is not limited to Gilead-marketed products, and obtaining feedback from the independent community of relevant healthcare professionals.

  • Collaborates effectively and in a compliant manner with colleagues in other functional areas such as Clinical Research, Medical Services, Sales and Marketing, etc. Works independently with minimal supervision.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:


Medical Degree or Pharm Degree required

Must have demonstrated excellence in leading team and cross-functional teams

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal, relationship building, and negotiation communication skills are required along with the ability to provide clear and concise moderately complex analysis of quantitative and qualitative concepts

Must have demonstrated success in influencing individuals, groups outside immediate control

Excellent ability in data analysis and presentations skills for meetings with internal and external stakeholders

Must have thorough understanding of departmental and company policies, process

Must have demonstrated success in managing highly complex situations and projects

Must be able to work with a level of autonomy and independence

Excellent analytical skills, demonstrated by the ability to identify and understand moderately complex issues and problems, and interpret information in a manner that provides appropriate recommendations to Medical, Sales and Marketing teams

Must have the ability to work closely of several teams that may overlap such as Project medical managers regional sales teams, and national accounts

Must be fully cognizant of all relevant complex scientific data and regulatory requirements for field-based personnel


Relevant and extensive experience in Pharma industry, preferred in HIV/Infectious Diseases field.

Experience in clinical trials such as management or investigator initiated research is desirable.

Some period of relevant clinical practice experience or specialization in HIV is desirable.
