Position Description:

Supervises and coordinates activities of subordinate guards in the protection of facilities against theft, vandalism, illegal entry, and other destructive activities.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • Manages the general daily function of the Security team and Information Kiosk, including procedures, recordkeeping, procurement, and general reporting.

  • Acts as a role model for and performs supervisory duties, coordination, and oversight of Guard and Technician schedules, duties, training, and evaluations.

  • Ppens and closes the Museum Building, including security systems, securing specified areas, and issuing badges and key sets. Opens and closes Museum galleries and facilities, including lighting, exhibit cases and cabinets, interactive displays, and audio/visual equipment.

  • Responsible for reporting problems regarding safety hazards and maintenance issues to the appropriate Museum or University staff, such as leaks, inoperative lighting, injuries, and acts of vandalism or neglect inside the building or on the Museum campus.

  • Responsible for programming all keypad-based locks and ensuring keypads are working properly.

  • Responsible for coordination and oversight of access or escort of delivery personnel, maintenance staff, and other persons as appropriate to the level of access necessary for accomplishing the task.

  • Reacts professionally in emergency situations and assists with the coordination and execution of building emergency procedures. Monitors and maintains first aid kits and AEDs; responsible for general monitoring of building fire extinguishers and other life safety equipment systems.

  • Responsible for operation of all alarm, CCTV, and access control systems and for monitoring of these systems for errors and maintenance issues.

  • Maintains proficient knowledge of the facility and of potentially hazardous conditions such as illegal entry, malicious activity, and severe weather via monitoring of media, emergency services, and Museum security systems.

  • Monitors and patrols the Museum building and campus to ensure the safety and security of the facility, the collections and exhibits, and our staff, students, and guests.
