The Translational Research Laboratory (TRLab) at the USC School of Pharmacy is equipped with state-of-the-art technological platforms for protein/nanoparticle, analytical chemistry, molecular biology, cell and immunological biology, imaging, and histology research applications.
The TRLab is seeking a lab assistant who is: 1) self-motivated, customer service-oriented, 2) has at least 1 year of hands-on experience in histology and/or lab management, and 3) open to receiving phlebotomy training to perform blood draws from human subjects for research studies as needed. Under the supervision of the director, the successful candidate will have an opportunity to work in a team-oriented environment that provides cutting-edge research services to advance translational research endeavors in the School of Pharmacy, the USC research community, and external collaborative partners.
Assist core service by ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
Prepare, operate, & maintain equipment
Manage inventory of received tissue specimens
Process and embed tissues
Perform microtomy (microtome and cryostat) on tissue samples
Prepare and select proper dyes and chemicals for staining (e.g. H&E)
Serve as a resource to train & assist researchers
Assist to maintain files, records, and standard operation procedures (SOPs)
Assist to order supplies
Assist to prepare training sessions and seminars
Produce reports as needed for School of Pharmacy leadership
Promote TRLab services; speak at campus events
Perform phlebotomy as needed for IRB-approved human subject research studies

Ability to quickly learn to operate and maintain a wide range of equipment and technology
Ability to successfully prioritize and complete multiple ongoing projects in fast-paced environment
Excellent interpersonal communication skills; advanced fluency in written and oral English.

Minimum Education: BS in science.
Minimum Experience: 2 years.
Minimum Qualifications: Basic hands-on basic research experiences, particularly instrumentation and histological procedures: tissue handling, processing, embedding, sectioning and staining.
Preferred Qualifications: Advanced experience in instrument maintenance, developing assays and histological procedures. Phlebotomy license is plus.
Minimum Education: Associate's degree, Specialized/technical training, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience: 2 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols. Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data.
