The Department of Preventive Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC is seekingaPostdoctoral Scholar-Research Associate for our grant from the National Cancer Institute.

Our overall aim is to develop novel statistical methods for analyzing high-dimensional –omics data and applying them to various genetic epidemiology studies of colorectal cancer. Specific projects are concerned with

  • hierarchical modeling, penalized regression methods for high-dimensional data,

  • phylogenetic inference on gene function,

  • mediation of exposure and genetic effects on disease through the internal environment (e.g., metabolome, microbiome), and

  • modeling tumor evolution

Important to the success of all projects is the development of bioinformatics databases, computationally efficient algorithms, and wide distribution of new methods through user-friendly software.

Key investigators include Drs. Duncan Thomas, Jim Gauderman, David Conti, Juan Pablo Lewinger, Paul Thomas, Kim Siegmund, Josh Millstein, Huiayu Mi, and Paul Marjoram.

The Department of Preventive Medicine has one of the nation’s leading research programs in biostatistics and epidemiology. The growing USC Health Sciences Campus is home to several world-class research laboratories studying genetics and epigenetics of complex human diseases including cancers, neuro-developmental disorders, and psychiatric diseases. Postdoctoral Scholar-Research Associate will have the opportunity for professional development through the many ongoing research and scholarly programs at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in a relevant field (statistics/biostatistics, genetic epidemiology, computer science, machine learning, data science, molecular or computational biology, etc.), have strong programming skills, and an interest in both methodological research and data analysis. Successful applicants will be expected to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment under the mentorship of one of the project’s senior faculty. Minimum Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within previous five years

Minimum Experience: 0-1 year

Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related education in research specialization with advanced knowledge of equipment , procedures and analysis methods.

Preferred Field of Expertise: Publications in peer-reviewed journals in the same or related field.
