Cedars-Sinai Craft Specialist, Stationary Engineer - Plant Operations - Full Time - Days in Los Angeles, California

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor and/or the Lead Craft Specialist, the Craft Specialist, Stationary Engineer operates the machinery that provides uninterrupted mechanical power and utility services to the medical center. Sets priorities and handles multiple projects or assignments and meets completion schedules within established objectives. Performs preventive maintenance. Uses various hand tools and testing instruments to accomplish assigned tasks. Reports appropriate corrections/repairs and makes referrals to the appropriate Operations Supervisor, Lead Craft Specialist, Hospitality Center or specialty shops. Performs other related duties as required.

Educational Requirements and/or preference:

Completion of high school or an equivalent trade school with related specialty or a comparable level of education and experience is required.

Experience:

A minimum of 2 years at an apprentice level of the craft or trade is required. Able to read blueprints and schematics. Electrical and mechanical background is required. Progressively responsible experience demonstrating ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects or assignments and meet completion schedules within established time frames. Hospital experience preferred. Must read, write, speak English and be able to read training documents. Thorough knowledge and experience on drawing schematics, laying out work, trouble shooting of equipment and machinery is

License Required:

City of LA unlimited Steam Engineering, EPA type I & II or Universal Certification

Physical Demands:

This position requires a great deal of walking and standing. Must be able to push equipment carts and move job-related equipment. Must be able to lift fifty to eighty (50 - 80) pounds, stoop, bend and work in different positions for extended periods of time.

Work Environment (work environments, hazards and exposures the employee may encounter on the job):

Be able to tolerate heat, noise, dust, smoke, unpleasant odors, and chemicals. Must be adept at handling themselves in potentially dangerous situations and areas. Must be able to stay alert at all times, even during extended hours and at night. Must be available to provide uninterrupted watches and unscheduled overtime.
