The Computer Science Department in the USC Viterbi School of Engineering is seeking an outstanding candidate to join our advisement staff. The position reports directly to the Director of Student Affairs and works closely with our four-person advisement team, as well as the Department Chair.
The ideal applicant will be well-prepared to deliver the following services:
Provide academic counseling primarily for CS graduate students in twelve distinct masters programs. Advise on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, transfer credit evaluations, and graduation counseling and clearance. Monitor student progress and update on-line student resources as necessary.
Evaluate complex problems – whether academic, administrative, or personal – and refer students to appropriate offices for assistance. Liaise with other offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution.
Provide administrative support for departmental course clearance and registration.
Maintain and compile statistical data. Prepare reports for internal and external use.
Process correction of grades and course completion requests.
Assist in the maintenance of the department website.
Prepare, submit, and monitor the submission of materials for curriculum proposals.
Attend departmental, school, and university meetings relevant to student services. Maintain currency on all policy and procedural changes.
Collaborate with student affairs colleagues in the planning and implementation of student services and events.
Assist faculty and staff on special projects as assigned.
Preferred Qualification:Master’s degree
Preferred Experience: Ability to meet and manage deadlines; work independently and well under pressure; strong organization and prioritization skills; experience working in an academic institution; experience working in diverse workplace and/or with an international community; a demonstrated commitment to kind and patient customer service.
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree
Minimum Experience: 1 year
Minimum Field of Expertise: Student program or services experience
