Job Purpose: The Director of Strategic Planning is a highly visible and influential role; pivotal to the future success of the organisation as it enters into a phase of accelerated growth. The role reports to the Managing Director Commercial Strategy UKI & EMEAand serves as a member of the UKI-EMEA Commercial Leadership Team. The Director of Strategic Planning will be responsible for leading and managing a centre of competence (team of 6) for the development, planning and execution of UKI-EMEA strategic planning over the short, medium and long term.

  • Market Modelling - analysis, sizing and segmentation

  • Market Insight - market studies, industry dynamics, technology trends, regulatory, client and competitor insight.

  • Market Planning – annual organisational alignment on key priorities for execution, and linked market / functional plans

  • Commercial Strategy Development – specific projects linked to organic and inorganic (M&A) initiatives.

  • Tracking and reporting of strategic commercial initiatives

The role will drive commercial and operational rigor and build competitive advantage for our business - leading divisional efforts in monitoring and analysing the marketplace in order to proactively find new opportunities and anticipate potential adjustments to our strategy. This will involve tracking industry, technology and market trends, develop future market scenarios, manage the views of our opportunity and competitive landscapes, and drive competitive strategy developments. The Director of Strategic Planning will work closely with the UKI & EMEA leadership team, so ability to articulate the strategic landscape and competitive strategies, identify growth opportunities, crisply communicate business implications and drive action within the business are instrumental for success in this role.

Proven international experience of strategy development and delivery, client centricity, commercial outlook, attention to detail, a hands-on approach and the ability to operate effectively in a matrix organisation are instrumental for success in this role. Previous experience of Big Data solutions and/or high-end B2B services and/or banking / financial services / Telco would be greatly advantageous.

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications

  • A good understanding of both:-

  • Business Strategy - process, tools, frameworks with experience in their practical application

  • Business case development

  • Strategic design – how to take a strategic initiative and design to the next level of detail so it is clearly understood and ready for implementation

  • Experience in the delivery of strategic development and market analysis assignments which could include market sizing and analysis, competitor analysis or high level commercial analysis i.e. building or interpreting business cases.

  • The ability to manage multiple ongoing projects supporting senior stakeholders (UKI & EMEA Exec, BU Leaders) and teams from across the business.

  • The ability to interact effectively with people from across the business demonstrating strong inter-personal, communication and workshop facilitation skills. The confidence and ability to challenge colleagues effectively is important.

  • An ability to work effectively in a matrix organisation and preferably experience of working in an international organisation

  • A good awareness of the effects of macroeconomic and market trends on businesses.

  • General awareness of key financial metrics that are important in a strategic growth environment
