Exceptional opportunity for Law Students to gain valuable experience in a dynamic and diversified Law Department that is part of a progressive County Government!

The Law Department is seeking an unpaid first year, second year, or third year legal intern in either a full-time or part-time capacity.

Responsibilities may include case review; conducting legal research and analysis; preparing and reviewing legal documents; accompanying staff attorneys to hearings, depositions and client meetings; and other tasks of a similar nature or level.

Applicants must work well under pressure, have excellent written and oral communications skills, and be interested in government law and civil litigation. Previous experience in a law firm is desired, but not required. Candidates must be enrolled in an ABA accredited law school and should have a general understanding of governmental processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Westlaw required.

Physical Requirements:

Talking, hearing ,seeing and repetitive motions. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

    • Gwinnett County will contribute 7.0% of your pensionable earnings per pay period.

  • An employee is fully vested in 5 years. An employee can retire if he/she has reached the age of 55 and the sum of his/her age and years of service equals 65.

  • Deferred Compensation Plan

    • If you contribute at least 2.5% of your base pay to the 457(b) plan, Gwinnett County will contribute an additional 1% to your Defined Contribution Retirement Plan (this is in addition to the 7% described above).
