The Medical Laboratory Technician performs tests requiring limited skill and responsibility and exercises independent judgment minimally, as competency is demonstrated.
Accuracy: Maintains acceptable accuracy in-patient, quality assurance, proficiency and competency testing.
Critical Thinking: Uses clinical/theoretical knowledge to analyze, investigate, interpret and report lab data.
Job Knowledge: Maintains current personal training, education and practice of policies and procedures.
Productivity: Practices organizational skills for efficient of time, materials, cost and availability of lab data.
Communication: Practices information monitoring, investigation, resolution and hand-off to team members.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Education: Must have associates or Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or related science, except for HEW.
Required Minimum Certification: MLT or equivalent from an accrediting agency approved by Georgia Department of Community Health. (ASPC, NCA, AMT, AAB or another agency approved by the Georgia Department of Community Health) AAB certified individuals must have completed a formalized training program that includes clinical rotations or have three years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician in a hospital laboratory. For persons who possess the technician qualifications and have recently moved into the state or completed the academic and/or training requirements, they may be temporarily classified once as technicians for eighteen (18) months to afford them an opportunity to successfully complete an approved qualifying examination.
Required Minimum Experience: One year of Laboratory experience preferred.
