Job Description

Assist the Research Technician in the performance of field activities associated with the TFS pine, hardwood and urban tree improvement programs.

Responsibilities:-Assist Research Technician in carrying out the activities associated with the TFS pine, hardwood and urban tree improvement programs.

1) Perform activities associated with the daily operation of the TFS tree improvement program including mowing, irrigation, grafting, graft maintenance, pruning and pesticide application.

2) Graft, establish and maintain various hardwood seed orchards as well as collect hardwood seed for the hardwood and urban programs.

3) Maintain computer records on the seed orchard.

-Schedule and perform routine maintenance on equipment, facilities and vehicles.

-Manage and account for TFS credit card and cell phone in accordance with all applicable laws, policies, rules, procedures and guidelines.

-Working Conditions: May require exposure to weather. Must be willing to operate lift equipment during seasonal periods. May require walking, standing, twisting and bending for extended periods of time. May require lifting heavy objects.

-Hours of work: Monday -Thursday: 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Overnight travel for periods of up to one work week are required.

-Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:Required Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

Required Experience: NonePreferred Experience: Background in farming.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Preferred Knowledge: Farming principlesRequired Ability: Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Ability: Operate a wide variety of agricultural equipment.

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:Required: Valid Texas Driver's license or ability to acquire one within 30 days of hire. Acquire Class B or higher Driver's license within one year of hire.

Preferred: Pesticide Applicators License

Other Requirements:Preferred: Basic mechanical repair skills.
