Job Description Summary
Under general supervision of the supervisor of anesthesia, perform sedation and/or anesthesia for all clinical and research patients. Assist with the instruction of technician students, 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. Participate in rotating primary on call (nights, weekends and holidays) for patients requiring anesthesia. Work with multiple species including equine, bovine, caprine, ovine, swine and camelids.Position located in Kennett Sq., no public trans. avail.
Perform anesthesia on patients for elective and emergency surgical and diagnostic procedures, assist with moving patient to and from operating table.Primary anesthetist for research studies, induce, maintain and monitor anesthesia
Assist with teaching 4th year veterinary students and house officers in the anesthesia dept.Perform all aspects of clinical anesthesia, including pre-anesthesia physical, blood work evaluation, etc. Administer pre-anesthetic drugs, induction drugs. including intubation, invasive monitoring, blood pressure support and recovery sedation on multiple large animal species. Provides primary on-call emergency anesthesia duties as needed 1-2 days per week, rotating weekend on call (1 weekend/month)Maintains anesthesia equipment, patient monitors, drugs and related supplies.Monitors patient’s condition, directs and assists in moving large animal patients to and from recovery room. Maintains records, inventory and controlled drug logs. Assists in teaching veterinary and veterinary technician students. Assist with the large animal block surgery anesthesia lab rotation, moving equipment to and from storage, teach third year students in lab from induction to recovery. Assist with the Harcum anesthesia student rotation, includes orientation, instruction, testing and submit final evaluations at the end of the rotation. Participate in rotating primary on call responsibilities after business hours, weekends and holidays. (Split evenly among other members of the anesthesia department.) Contribute to a professional, safe and efficient hospital environment. Assist with equipment maintenance and stocking. Perform additional duties as required. High noise environment. Requires extensive safety training. On-Call after business hours. Exposure to moving machinery. Exposure to chemicals. Intermittently sitting/standing/stooping. Frequent lifting 25 lbs. or more.
Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited program. Licensed Veterinary Technician. Vet Tech A requires 0-1 years experience in anesthesia, Vet Tech B- 1-2 yrs.experience, Vet Tech C-2-3 yrs. experience Salary commensurate with experience, Some equine experience required
