Position Summary:Our School of Arts and Sciences, Department of Humanities is seeking a Student C Outdoor Studies Student Program Assistant for Spring 2019 academic year. This is a student hire position which will work no more than 20 hours a week or up to 20 hours a pay period, depending on program needs.

Duties:

100%This student position will work with Assistant Professor Forest Wagner to coordinate class trips, transportations, gear, and onsite safety. Duties include plan, promote, and lead outdoor trips for students enrolled in the Outdoor Study Program. Group size will be limited to ten (10) participants per trip. As a representative of the University of Alaska Southeast, ensure participants are adhering to the Student Code of Conduct while on outings and report misconduct to the appropriate resource. Act responsibly in back country settings and lead others in safe and fulfilling experiences. Educate others in areas relating to outdoor recreation as appropriate before, during, and after trips. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to work well independently, be dependable, self-reliant, have good judgement, effective leadership skills, and have good fast responsive decision making skills.

  • Must have a valid Alaska driver’s license.

  • Must be a current student of the ODS program and have knowledge and experience with a broad array of outdoor activities.

  • Wilderness First Responded and Avalanche Level 1 Certificate.

Student Employment Requirements

  • Must be a current student of the ODS program and have knowledge and experience with a broad array of outdoor activities.

  • Must be a UAS student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours throughout employment duration.

  • Maintain a 2.0 cumulative Grade Point Average throughout employment duration period.

  • Must be a senior with good academic standing in an Environmental Science Degree program or equivalent.

This is a Student Assistant C position ($10.50 minimum hourly rate) for the AY18-19 academic year. Applications must include a resume, cover letter, and contact information for three references.
