Position Summary:The Alaska College of Education at the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) is seeing qualified applicants for a faculty position in Elementary Education. The qualified candidate will be expected to: teach literacy and other content courses in graduate and undergraduate programs as needed; take a leadership role in relationships with public schools and state agencies; willingness to participate in research, and perform college, university and community service. This is a permanent, tenure-track position with salary and rank based on experience. Desired start date is June 1, 2018. The position is located in Juneau, Alaska.

The Alaska College of Education values collaborative scholarship, and the person in this position will be expected to work with colleagues to teach graduate courses for district level supervision, engage in clinical supervision across the state, establish strong ties with colleagues in and across the College and University, including administrators in local school districts, and participate in Department, College, and professional service activities. The candidate will also be expected to work with colleagues to help ensure continuing accreditation and to facilitate for students working in diverse communities.

Supervise interns. Advise graduate students. Hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught.

Be proactive in developing and modifying curriculum for delivery and other teaching modalities.

Education & Experience

  • A Doctorate in Educational Leadership, developmental reading, or a closely related field at time of the appointment is required. ABD, or master’s level candidates with significant experience will be considered.

  • Previous experience serving as both a building-level principal and as a district-level superintendent in a public school setting is required.

  • A minimum of three years of experience as a superintendent is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from diverse backgrounds.

  • Willingness to live in Juneau and travel across the state of Alaska on a regular basis is required.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Previous experience in on-line distance learning, experience in university level teaching, research agenda, experience with multicultural/diverse learners.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach literacy and other content education; perform curriculum development; and provide on-going supervision of student teachers.
