Position Overview

Commercial Metals Company is very excited about the growth of our Global Scrap Management Services group. In support of this growth, we are seeking a Business Development Manager to join our team to represent us in the marketplace as we continue our expansion throughout NAFTA and elsewhere. The Business Development Manager will immediately assume responsibility for scrap program management and customer relationship development activities for a broad range of established manufacturing customers. Effective customer relationship development will lead to inside and outside customer referrals, process improvement driving revenue growth, and contract renewal and extension.

The Business Development Manager is also responsible for researching prospective customers, pursuing leads and following through to a successful agreement. The Business Development Manager will display an affinity for new business development utilizing a customer-focused, solution-seeking process that prioritizes matching the needs of the prospective customer with the Global Scrap Management Services value proposition.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Develops and nurtures long-term relationships with customers across the entire strata of the customer’s organization. Converts these relationships to internal and external referrals as well as repeated contract renewals and extensions.• Visits manufacturing facilities to assess the process through which scrap byproducts of the primary manufacturing process are generated, captured, handled and segregated for removal.• Leverages knowledge of available markets for the scrap byproducts generated to suggest process changes that will increase value.• Builds relationships with scrap processing partners in the geographies in which we operate. Assesses potential processing partners on behalf of our customers in areas of customer service, safety, environmental stewardship, and financial health.• Drives the RFP process at each facility managed. Prepares the comparative analysis and delivers the recommendation proposal to the customer.• Negotiates agreements for scrap purchase with the prospective customer and scrap sale with the processing partner.• Implementation leader for deployment of the GSMS program at each new facility.• Works with the Customer Representative to assure all shipments are audited for occurrence, weight, grade and timely payment. Responsible for approving all exceptions.• Researches and develops a pipeline of qualified prospective customers and systematically communicates with them with the goal of converting them from potential customer to current customer.

Experience and Skill Requirements

• Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive B2B sales/business development experience with preference for experience in scrap or waste management.• Understands scrap grading and associated consumers and values.• Familiar with various equipment, methods and costs for handling, processing and transporting scrap.• Analytical, creative problem solver.• Builds long-term relationships with new and existing customers.• Ability to negotiate purchase and sales contracts.• Comfort contacting potential clients via email or phone to establish rapport and set up meetings.• Proficient using Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Salesforce.com, and LinkedIn Sales Navigator.• Excellent time management and organization skills.• Superior communication skills with line, staff and executive contacts.• Ability to travel up to 50%.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Communications or another related field required.
