DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manage everyday datacenter operations, exhibiting demonstrated knowledge in daily operational functions. Implement policies, standards, and documentation procedures. Maintain Datacenter Operations' emergency response and recovery procedures. Implementation of solutions for customer applications, including preparation of space, power, and network. Handles all issues encountered in a 24 x 7 operations to ensure 100% uptime for facility operations. In-depth hardware architectures knowledge and troubleshooting experience. Experience with system management tools and client/server environments. Excellent organization skills and demonstrated ability to multi task and meet multiple deadlines.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. in an office environment. Occasionally work in a noisy datacenter area with colder temperatures than standard office environmental conditions.

This is a Department of Houston Public Works position at the Tier II Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires an Associate's degree in a computer science, instrumentation, or electronics discipline or the equivalent, such as certification in a technical/specialty program of up to three years in duration.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Two years of experience in the design, installation, operation, and/or maintenance of a communications network or industrial control system are required.

Relevant experience (as described above) may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).

PREFERENCES

Preference will be given to applicants with experience related to Microsoft Server environment, VMware, Red Hat Linux, Veeam, Cloud based solutions, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Hybrid cloud infrastructure and integration. Experience developing standards and best practices across multiple data centers.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
