DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Supervise day to day operations, maintenance, upgrades and uptime for all infrastructure components and application hosted in the data center. Ensures correct and on time implementation of solutions for customer applications, including preparation of space, power, and network. Recommend and implement policies, standards, and documentation procedures. Develop and maintain Datacenter Operations' emergency response and recovery procedures. Meet regularly with staff to gather and disseminate information. Coordinate change management resources. Handles all issues encountered in a 24 x 7 operations to ensure 100% uptime for facility operations. Networking experience and knowledge of cabling best practices. In-depth hardware architectures knowledge and troubleshooting experience. Experience with system management tools and client/server environments. Greatly developed problem analysis and critical thinking experience. Excellent organization skills and demonstrated ability to multi task and meet multiple deadlines.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. in an office environment. Occasionally work in a noisy datacenter area with colder temperatures than standard office environmental conditions.

This is a Department of Houston Public Works Position at the Tier II Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field is required. Directly related experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Five (5) years of experience in programming and systems analysis or a closely related field are required.

Directly related experience may be substituted for education requirements on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

A Valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

PREFERENCES

Preference will be given to applicants with experience related to Microsoft Server environment, VMware, Red Hat Linux, Veeam, Cloud based solutions, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Hybrid cloud infrastructure and integration.

Experience developing standards and best practices across multiple data centers.

Experience working with sound change and incident management processes and procedures.

Preference shall also be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
