Functional Responsibilities:

ISYS Technologies is seeking a Stress Engineer.


  • U.S. Citizen

Job Duties:

  • Perform integrated structural analysis of structures, mechanisms, thermal protection systems, environmental control and life support systems, and propulsion high pressure gas/fluid tubing and components

  • Perform analysis using a combination of hand calculations and finite element techniques such as NASTRAN, Femap

  • Create Stress Analysis Models of Flight Structures, Mechanisms or Components and incorporate in to existing system finite element models

  • Modify existing finite element models as necessary to perform stress evaluations

  • Support stress analysis assessments to rapidly guide design maturation

  • Perform preliminary and final analyses, part sizing, fatigue/fracture assessment, drawing coordination and sign-off, test support and correlation, analyses presentations, and documentation of analyses for deliverable stress and fracture reports

  • Derive and apply load cases and develop resulting stress analysis

  • Link models and execute analysis on subsystem and system level elements

  • Iterative analysis with design to achieve high performance/ low mass designs

  • Perform Mass opportunity assessments and support long lead hardware implementation

  • Models shall meet modeling standards established

  • Support development, acceptance and/or qualification level structural testing

  • Perform finite element correlation to test data


Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 2-9 years of professional experience; or no experience- 9 years required with a related master’s degree

  • Experience performing stress analysis on spacecraft or aircraft structures

  • Proficient in Nastran and FEMAP or NX

  • Experience performing fracture and/or fatigue analysis

Desired Experience:

  • Experience with Human Rated Spacecraft Structures

  • Experience analyzing flight mechanisms

  • Experience with analysis of composite material systems

  • Experience with NASGRO

  • Experience with structural testing

The employee must be able to communicate through speech with clients and public. Hearing requirements include conversation in both quiet and noisy environments. Lifting may require floor to waist, waist to shoulder, or shoulder to overhead movement of up to 20 pounds. This position demands tolerance for various levels of mental stress.
