The Oncology Psychologist will fulfill a number of duties, encompassed under the scope of psychological practice, to enhance the cancer patient’s experience, and to strengthen the goals of the Cancer Patient Support Services program. They will work closely with the psychosocial oncology team (psychiatrists, LCSWs, and chaplains) and oncologists to enhance the quality of life and health outcomes of cancer patients and their caregivers by addressing their emotional, psychological, cognitive and social needs. The psychologist will conduct psychological assessments, provide individual and group counseling, and provide consultation and treatment of psychiatric disorders and emotional conditions in patients with cancer. They act as a patient/family advocate in negotiating the healthcare system, and facilitate team support of identified cancer patient and family needs through ongoing communication with multi-disciplinary OptumCare Cancer Care physicians and providers. Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific differences in the cancer patient population, including adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. This includes physiological, psychological, and developmental differences unique to each group. The psychologist will fulfill a number of duties, encompassed under the scope of psychological practice, to enhance the patient's experience, and to strengthen the goals of the overall cancer program.
Performsand documents a comprehensive psychosocial assessment sensitive to thecultural and age-appropriate needs of the patient and family
Providesrecommendations for treatment and/or referral
Providesbrief counseling and crisis intervention for patients, families andsupport systems
Providesand documents psychosocial and mental status assessments withrecommendations for treatment and/or referral
Supportsand contributes to the maintenance of positive inter-agency collaborationand networking via meetings, phone calls, correspondence and in-servicepresentation
Coordinateswith physician offices and other referral resources as appropriate
Providescare appropriate to the patient population
Utilizethe NCI Distress Thermometer as a tool to monitor psycho-social well-beingin patients
Valid/current State of Nevada Psychologist license
PhD in Clinical Psychology or PsyD from an APA-accredited university doctoral program required
5 years’ experience working as a Clinical Psychologist required
Demonstrated clinical experience in individual and family counseling and crisis intervention
Excellent skills in individual and family counseling and crisis intervention
Demonstrated resourcefulness, effective written and oral communication, diplomacy, organizational skills
Self-directed, and creative in problem solving
Ability to work collaboratively, as well as independently
Participates as a member of the OCCC Cancer Committee and the OCRC Research Committee
Prior experience working with Oncology patients, within an outpatient Oncology program
5 years psycho-oncology experience preferred
