Banner Health North Colorado Medical Center (NCMC) is seeking a Certified Medical Dosimetrist for a full time position. The qualified dosimetrist will join a friendly, and energetic team of three other dosimetrists, two of which work at a nearby facility. Under the supervision of the Program Director of Medical Physics, the dosimetrist will be engaged in treatment planning at a busy facility which offers special procedures such as SBRT and HDR. The department staff at NCMC include three radiation oncologists and two physicists. The department is equipped with a Varian Ex and a Varian Truebeam with advanced components such as Calypso and Vision RT. The GE CT simulator has 4D capability, which is used routinely for disease in the thorax. NCMC is a full partner in the MD Anderson Cancer Network, which gives our dosimetrists the opportunity to participate in weekly chart rounds with the team in Houston to review plans in a collaborative arena.

The North Colorado Medical Center (NCMC) Radiation Oncology department is located in the NCMC Cancer Institute. This is a hospital based cancer program, and a vital part of the overall cancer program.

The radiation oncology program is accredited by ASTRO’s Accreditation Program for Excellence (APEx) and the the Cancer Program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a “Community Comprehensive Cancer Program.” NCMC cancer program works in a regional model of care in conjunction with McKee Medical Center in Loveland, CO and with Sterling Regional MedCenter, David Walsh Cancer Center in Sterling Colorado. The cancer program is a comprehensive program embracing a broad spectrum of care and services, from prevention and early detection programs through an active cancer survivorship program. A robust cancer research program supports the program in northern Colorado.

Job Summary

This position prepares radiation therapy treatment plans as directed by following department/facility policies, procedures and protocols. Performs needed assessment, care and treatment planning for patient population.

Essential Functions

  • Performs computer and manual treatment planning as prescribed by the physician for patients requiring radiation therapy treatments. Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.

  • Calculates all initial treatment doses and reviews calculations of treatment and doses performed by the therapist. Monitors patient's dosimetric calculations and ensures the safe administration of therapeutic radiation treatments.

  • Works collaboratively with staff and physicians to develop treatment plans, discuss diagnosis and desired treatment results. May act as a dosimetry resource for staff. Demonstrates professional behavior/conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.

  • Responsible for the review of diagnostic information to produce the development of an optimized treatment plan. Prepares and maintains accurate documentation.

  • Participates as required in all aspects of radiation therapy planning and treatments Performs and/or assists in radiographic simulations. Responsible for the fabrication of shielding blocks.

  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to radiation safety policies. Ensures the safe receipt, administration, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials utilizing ALARA principles.

  • Accountable for the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to radiology practice. This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.

  • Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department by performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Certified as a Medical Dosimetrist by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB). BLS Certification.

Knowledge as typically obtained through 2 years experience in dosimetry. Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, analyze data and solve problems.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors degree in related field preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
