Responsible for inspecting, disinfecting, assembling, processing and distributing patient care instruments, equipment and supplies in accordance with established policies, procedures and AAMI standards. Acts as a role model and resource to peers and other members of the health care team related to processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies. Stores, rotates and ensures all instruments and supplies are correctly labeled.

Basic Qualifications:

Education - High School Diploma or equivalent

Licenses - As of January 1, 2018 all employees are required to obtain the Certification (per AAMI standards) in Sterile Processing through CBSPD or IAHCSMM with 18 months of January 1st, 2018 or 18 months from date of hire.

Sterile Processing Orientation Exams: • All SPD new hires are required to take 6 exams as part of the their new hire orientation within the department. (SPD Test 1, SPD Test 2, SPD Test 3, SPD Test 4, SPD 60 Day Competency and SPD 90 Day Competency) • All tests must receive a passing score of 80% or higher. • If an individual receives a score of less than 80% they will be required to retake the exam and must get a score of 80% or higher. • Failure of 2 exams, original or retake, will result in dismissal from the department.
