The Georgia Department of Community Health is seekinga Legal Se rvices Attorney for the Office ofGeneral Counsel.

JobDuties

Provide legalsupporttotheDepartmentthroughtheDivisionofLegalServices. In doing so, he/she isresponsiblefor workingassigned cases,preparingthemforhearings, submitting and responding torelevant motions,interviewingand preparingwitnesses. Moreover, thispositionrequires analysis ofissues facing thedepartment and recommendations to ameliorate the same.When the situation arises, theAttorneymustnegotiate,anddraftsettlementagreementsinvolvingsumsassmallasONE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1,000.00)toover TWOMILLION DOLLARS ($2,000,000.00).Additionaljobresponsibilitiesinclude,butarenotlimitedtothefollowing:

  • Draftingandpreparinglegaldocumentsandcorrespondence.ThisincludesMotionsforSummaryDetermination,MotionsforContinuance,MotionstoSubstituteCounsel,etc.

  • .Reviewingandassemblingappealfilestodeterminetheoptimalcourseofactionin support oftheDepartment'sbestinterestetc.

  • .ConductinglegalresearchutilizingLexisand/orotherreferencematerials.

  • Assisting outsidecounsel,whethertheStateAG'sofficeorSAAGs,withcasesthatarebefore boththeSuperiorand/orfederalcourt.

  • OralandwrittencommunicationwithMedicaidmembers,Medicaidproviders, opposingcounsel,theAttorneyGeneral'sOffice,courtofficials,etc.

  • Interviewingwitnessesinpreparationforadministrativehearings.

  • AttendingDepartmentalmeetings.

  • Preparingrelatedreports.

  • Presenting mattersonbehalfof theDepartment beforeOSAHaswellasthedepartmentsdesignatedhearingofficer.

  • Assisting variousProgramSpecialistswithlegalissuesassociatedwiththeirprograms.

  • Provide“in house”traininginconjunctionwithProgramSpecialists.

  • ServesasliaisonbetweenDCHandotherinterestedstakeholders.

  • Stay abreast of current issues across the Medicaid spectrum.

  • Attend seminars and training, provide a synopsis of the same.

  • Counsel the public with regard to the programs and services availableunder the DCH umbrella.

  • Travel required throughout the state of Georgia.

  • Seek ways to improve internal procedures and practices of Legal Services.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination OR reciprocity AND Three years of relevant legal experience OR Three years of experience required at the lower level Attorney 3 (LEP022).
