State of Georgia Accountant (WL) in Fulton, Georgia

The Fiscal unit of the Department of Administrative Services seeks an Accountant who will perform working level accounting duties in the area of accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger, according to DOAS established policies and standards, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). These independent responsibilities include but are not limited to analyzing financial information and preparing financial reports to document or maintain records of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, or other financial activities.
Serves as subject matter expert or organization resource in assigned areas.
Analyzes and reconciles accounting data and transactions requiring the knowledge of complex rules and regulations; initiates contact with outside agents, institutions, or with other internal units, to develop and implement a solution to accounting discrepancy.
Prompt and immediate processing of daily work tasks according to special financial and accounting practices defined and established for the assigned sub-systems.
Manage all Flexible Benefits financial transactions
Balances and reconciles complex accounting records, such as statewide Flexible Benefits and bank reconciliations
Determines sources of errors by researching accounting records, recording and/or directing correction of entries.
Plays a key role in monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing processes with reviewing, preparing and posting journal entries.
Preparing advanced-level professional recommendations and financial reports to management.
Assist in development of policies and procedures for assigned areas.
Maintains complete, accurate and readily accessible accounting files that conform to applicable policies, procedures, guidelines and standards.
Follows guidelines for providing information to others and auditors when necessary.
Maintains confidentiality of records, files and other documentation.
_Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:_
Knowledge of business operations (AP and AR)
Skills using queries and reports to monitor financial records
Knowledge of accounting theory
Ability to retrieve information from the accounting system, analyze, identify and investigate discrepancies
Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills; Strong interpersonal skills
Excellent customer service skills
Excellent analytical skills
Experience using Microsoft office to include Word, Excel, and Outlook
Experience with PeopleSoft Financials
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
Intermediate Excel skills (creating spreadsheets, formulas, pivot tables, etc.)
Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials
Government accounting experience
Three or more years experience working in AP, AR and general accounting environment.
Completion of a master’s degree in accounting
