Position Purpose & Summary

Lead the Quality Control Laboratory (Rheology, Chemistry & microbiology)

Accountable to ensure the Laboratory operates in the most safe, reliable and economic way, following Good Laboratory Practises in line with Cargill CFSQR requirements.

Support the manufacturing organisation and operations. Key member of the FSQR team

Responsible for applying a general scientific understanding of quality assurance and food/feed safety technology and processes across QC related activities in the following areas of focus: testing and auditing process documentation, data collection and analysis, and facilitating knowledge transfer.

Leads a team to provide solutions to less complex food safety and/or quality issues/concerns across QC related activities

Principal Accountabilities

Environment, Health & Safety - 5%

  • Accountable for people safety in QC laboratories

  • Responsible for implementing the relevant EHS programs at the laboratories and accountable for follow up of corrective actions resulting from audits, inspections, visits and incidents

QC lab management - 20%

  • Lead QC Lab activities : daily internal testing, external laboratories, contaminant monitoring,

  • Drive IDEX/IWEX management. Sets and communicates priorities for team

  • Manage QC technicians / team, resource and organization in line with site activity

  • Provide support to Operations and Supply Chain with timely execution ot testing and product release and by appropriate communication

  • Provide support to Operations by active QC contribution to RCAs in case of product incidents in production, in failure prevention by analysing trends in quality and providing advise on corrections.

Food Safety, Quality & Regulatory - 35%

  • Responsible to ensure the laboratories (including production labs) are fully equipped and accountable to ensure the instruments are qualified, calibrated and maintained according to the relevant standards.

  • Responsible for developing and sustaining QC team support to production laboratories (equipment selection, calibration and maintenance, test methods, training, ring testing, auditing)

  • Accountable to ensure appropriate methods of analysis and QC procedures are documented, available and implemented. Methods must be harmonised across CSST/ FIBI as appropriate, internationally recognized and/or validated against official methods (e.g. ISO or Pharmacopoeia).

  • Customer focus: provide QC support for Product Lines, commercial organisation and customers. Coordinate the analytical investigations of customer incidents.

  • Supporting the execution of Product Quality Reviews.

  • Accountable for a reliably operating Laboratory Information Management System including product specs, analysis plans and report generation.

  • Ad hoc decision making on off spec product destination, during office hours or on consignment.

  • Responsible for developing FSQR programs and providing support/advise to the entire organisation for their implementation. Responsible for auditing, analyzing and reporting on the performance of these programs. Responsible for follow up of corrective actions resulting from audits.

  • Use basic scientific understanding to provide input to testing and auditing methods.

  • Assist with the design and execution of routine laboratory trials and troubleshooting activities which will provide knowledge and add value to Cargill and our Customers/ Suppliers products, processes and equipment.

Reliability - 10%

  • Accountable for hosting the yearly Cargill GLP audit and supporting audits from customers and certification bodies.

  • Responsible for RCA and implementation of sustainable corrective and preventative action plans based on audit findings.

  • Responsible for the set up and accountable for the execution of training and competency programs for laboratory technicians.

Continuous improvement - 10%

  • Drive continuous improvement plans : control plans optimization & transformation programmes

  • Responsible for identifying, removing non-value added activities and initiating value adding activities.

  • Document and share best practices across team, Cluster and CSST QC supervisors community, and with a cross-functional audience.

  • Process analysis on Lead time / Value Stream Analysis

People development - 15%

  • Responsible selection, training, performance management, talent development and engagement of of direct reports and for own development, using MyHR tools. Accountable to ensure direct reports use MyHR performance management tools and for timely updates.

  • Supporting/advising HR and the FSQR Manager on succession planning and training programs.

  • Consulted on FSQR resource planning

  • Responsible for aligning team resources to execute against short term strategies and location objectives.

  • Provides overall guidance and expertise to the team.

Cost Management - 5%

  • QC budget : Responsible for the QC laboratory budget and manpower, input, monitoring and report.

  • Challenge and balance make or buy options (internal testing vs external laboratories)

  • Provide support to Operations to reduce waste and Costs Of Non Conformance, for rework and Non Performing Inventory reduction. Actively contribute to SHM activities


Education, Experience, Skills

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master Technical degree in Science (Chemistry, Science,microbiology, Quality-Assurance or other applicable field

  • Minimum 5 years experience in (food) industry
