Senior Director, Corporate Development, Europe

Reporting to the VP Corporate Development, this individual will provide strong business leadership in assessing and guiding Gilead’s long-range strategic direction through acquisitions, collaborations and licensing agreements, with a focus on deals with companies and institutions based in Europe. Identifies, investigates, and analyzes new pharmaceutical opportunities for strategic "fit".

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Structures terms and negotiates definitive agreements to secure product rights

  • Drives the deal process from first contact with potential clients to execution of agreements

  • Identifies new opportunities to support Gilead’s businesses (companies, technologies, services, tools, assets, candidates, products)

  • Partners with therapeutic area leads and other key personnel to define and execute strategies for acquiring/licensing external assets

  • Coordinates the evaluation and diligence of new opportunities across multiple functional areas including Research, Clinical, Regulatory, Commercial, Manufacturing, Finance, Legal, Intellectual Property and other groups

  • Independently and in collaboration with internal groups, works to provide detailed economic analyses of new opportunities (e.g., market research, business intelligence, competitive analysis, development plan, commercial forecast, NPV analyses) to inform business decisions

  • Presents business rationale, analyses and proposals to senior executives and interfaces with senior management to reach agreement

  • Develops deal concepts and negotiates term sheets and definitive agreements

  • Works closely with Gilead’s corporate legal group and finance groups to structure and execute transactions.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

10+ years of relevant experience in biotech or pharmaceutical companies, including extensive track record in identifying and evaluating deals and executing transactions.

Advanced science degree with or without MBA. In-depth understanding of drug discovery and development process.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and work successfully with varied audiences and executives. Deal sheet demonstrating leadership in identifying and evaluating deals, driving business decisions and negotiating complex arrangements.
