Gilead Sciences is currently seeking a qualified scientist with strong statistical background to support scientific experimentation, statistical modeling, and CMC statistical data analysis for our Analytical Operations team. Qualified candidates will apply statistics to the pharmaceutical drug development process.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The Research Scientist I, Analytical Operations will apply concepts such as Design of Experiment, Quality by Design, Analytical Target Profile (ATP), simulations (e.g., Monte Carlo) to predict and understand behavior/outcomes during the development of robust analytical methods and processes for small molecule drug substances and products.

  • Apply statistics in the evaluation of data and design of experiments to support the analytical method lifecycle from early development through to continued procedure performance verification (CPPV).

  • Model accelerated predictive stability data to inform product expiry, storage, and packaging.

  • Perform trend analyses and use control charts to make suggestions to specifications.

  • Understand and apply advanced concepts, such as principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least-squares (PLS), in the development of analytical methods.

  • Use industry leading statistical and modeling software such as Fusion by S-Matrix, JMP (SAS or equivalent), R, ASAP, MatLab for advanced data analysis (e.g., with PLS Toolbox by Eigenvector).

  • Work under supervision of more senior scientists or scientific directors to advance state-of-the-art techniques and approaches to in the development of drug substances and products.

  • Direct and advise junior staff and colleagues in the execution of statistical planning of experiments and analysis of their data.

  • Present results of work, interpret data, and draw conclusions regarding work.

  • Maintain full working knowledge of principles and theories, applying such knowledge to the direction that supports company interests.

  • Think critically and creatively and be able to work both independently and as a part of the team, determine appropriate resources for resolution of problems and have strong organizational and planning skills.

  • Potentially contribute to scientific literature and conferences or regulatory filings.

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and technical) and strong interpersonal skills are required.

Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • PhD in chemistry, biology or other scientific field with a postdoc or limited industrial experience.

  • BS or MS with a strong mathematics component, such as physical sciences, statistics, or finance

  • Demonstrated expertise in statistics.

  • BS or MS in Chemistry, Biology or other scientific field with extensive industry experience.
