Job Description

Gilead is seeking a Payroll Manager to participate in the US bi-weekly payroll process for 7000+ employees, contributes to payroll projects and support Human Resources projects for North America. Business partners include Human Resources, Accounting, Legal and Stock Administration. The Payroll Manager is experienced in handling day-to-day payroll operations, and identifying and implementing process improvement projects. The position requires the individual to have the ability to effectively multi-task, prioritize work, demonstrate accountability and ensure payroll deadlines and project deliverables are met. The Payroll Manager will also help ensure that the payroll process is compliant with applicable labor laws and regulations, and is SOX compliant.

Essential Duties and Job Functions

  • Audit payroll balancing sheets and complete flux analysis of payroll activity

  • Participate in the year-end payroll activities, including preparation of W-2’s

  • Participate in payroll projects including the implementation of a new time and attendance system and payroll system

  • Support the day-to-day operations of the US payroll team, including processing of expats, relocation, new hires, LOAs, benefits, terminations, tax inquiries, payroll helpdesk and employee changes as needed

  • Help develop desktop procedures to support process and system changes

  • Complete the payroll interface from Workday to ADP and audit the results. Ensure each interface is reviewed and any errors are resolved. Complete additional interfaces for time and attendance, benefits, etc.

  • Participate in payroll projects including the implementation of a new time and attendance system and payroll system

  • Ensure Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, finance policies (Controller’s Manual), and tax and labor law requirements are followed

  • Identify areas for payroll process improvement and efficiencies, provide recommendations to management, and implement

  • Maintain a great working relationship with all business partners

  • Provide support for internal and external payroll audits

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • 6+ years of relevant experience and a BA or BS degree in accounting or equivalent

  • Previous supervisory or project management experience is required

  • Ability to build partnerships with key business stakeholders and work cross functionally

  • Excellent communication skills, organization skills, multi-tasking and prioritizing skills

  • Working knowledge of ADP Pay Force, Kronos, and Workday is preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Outlook, Word, and Intermediate Excel) is required

  • Strong written, presentation and interpersonal skills are required

  • Able to work in a fast-paced, multi-national, changing environment, meeting deadlines in an accurate and timely manner
