THIS POSITION OPERATES OUT OF THE SOUTH WINSTON SALEM DLO
This position is located at the South Winston-Salem DLO. The Driver License Examiner II performs advanced level duties in addition to testing and evaluating applicants for motor vehicle driver licenses. This position will; assist the Senior Examiner with managing the office serving as a "Lead" Examiner. Work includes assisting the Senior Examiner with troubleshooting problem situations including but not limited to making decision regarding the credentialing process of a driver license or I.D. card. Work also includes responsibilities such as reviewing leave requests, reviewing daily work, tasks and end of day documentation prior to submission to the Senior Examiner. This position will provide temporary or interim supervision in the absence of the Senior Examiner which will require this person to fully understand all policies and procedure related to the credentialing process and office management; assist with writing standard operating procedures; assists in the development and implementation of new initiatives; participate on special projects. Work also includes assisting the Senior Examiner with facility management responsibilities such as coordinating building and grounds maintenance, parking, equipment, supplies, etc. ; serve as an adjunct instructor providing instruction in the office for new examiners prior to them attending the Basic Driver License Examiner School; mentor new Examiners; provide technical advice and guidance; Ensuing the examiners and all other employees, along with the Senior Examiner, provide excellent customer service and office efficiencies are also a function of this position. ; and must be able to work independently and be able to make sound, independent decisions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Qualified applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
Must have 1 year of experience as a Driver License Examiner.
Considerable knowledge of motor vehicle operators licensing procedures, requirements, Motor Vehicle laws, federal mandates, standards for issuing driver licenses and identification cards.
Considerable experience explaining policy, procedure and laws to a diverse clientele.
Skill and knowledge used in receiving, accounting, disbursing payments including banking processes.
Experience examining and evaluating information or documents to make a determination based on analysis.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from high school and the demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through at least four years of clerical, administrative, or paraprofessional experience involving the resolution of varied public contact situations which include interviewing and/or explaining information in considerable detail, and one year as a Driver License Examiner; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification:
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver license. Must have a valid N.C. Driver License with no suspensions or revocations within the past 10 years in any state for any motor vehicle related offense and no more than 5 active points. This position is considered "covered" under the REAL ID Act. Therefore, pursuant to 6 CFR, 37.45, the selected candidate will be required to undergo a background check which includes a name-based and fingerprint based criminal history record check. The candidate that is selected for the position will be given a conditional offer of employment that would allow him or her to begin work subject to the results of the background check. Prior to beginning employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a name-based and fingerprint-based criminal history record check. A cost will be associated with this process for new employees. No cost is associated with this process for existing DMV employees.
