Position Summary:

The Mechanical Development group within the Engine Test and Development department at Mercury Marine is looking for a Mechanical Development Engineer to develop mechanical, fluid, and thermal systems within the engine. The Mechanical Development group is responsible for the design, testing, development, and validation of engine fuel, lubrication, cooling, exhaust, valve train and power cylinder systems for Mercury Outboards, MerCruiser Sterndrive engines, and Mercury high-speed diesel marine engines.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of the assigned engine system.

  • On new product design, work with component engineers and the analysis group to ensure component designs will meet the system requirements.

  • Develop and execute system level engine tests both on the dynamometer and in the vessel.

  • Utilize Concerto and other post-processing software packages to analyze data.

  • Communicate test results and recommendations to design engineers and program management.

  • Create technical reports documenting development activities.

  • Must be able to work independently when needed to develop solutions with little supervision. Must also be able to work well with cross-functional groups including technicians, design engineers, analysis engineers, and program managers

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum B.S Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • 5-8 years engineering experience working with engines, mechanical systems, or thermal and fluid systems.

  • A strong working knowledge of internal combustion or diesel engines, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • 8+ years engineering experience working with engines, mechanical systems, or thermal and fluid systems.

  • Experience with data acquisition systems and instrumentation selection.

  • Experience with system modeling tools such as GT-Suite, PISDYN, AVL Excite, LMS Amesim.
