Navient Data Network Support Specialist II in Fishers, Indiana

The Data Network Support Specialist II has a very good understanding of day to day network tasks, participates in tasks for business critical projects and troubleshoot the corporate data network. Should act as an escalation level for Data Network Specialists. Good communication skills will enable the successful candidate to work closely with vendors, other technology departments, peers, and clients.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Maintain Corporate Data Network
  • Work with clients to coordinate appropriate changes. Manage any required follow up with clients and vendors.

  • Assist in installations and/or decommissions of network equipment.

  • Manage and maintain network equipment included but not limited to the installation of firmware patches and updates to all network devices and software.

  • Provide as-needed technical assistance to end-users and/or help desk and escalate as needed.

  • Assign network addresses and implement protocols.

  • Administer and perform firewall access permissions and change orders.

  • Carry on call responsibilities to support 24x7 enterprise network infrastructure as defined.

  1. Manage stability, performance, and availability of corporate Data Network
  • Adhere to company wide data communications strategic direction set by the Sr. Engineers and/or Architects.

  • Maintain enterprise network security standards as set forth by Enterprise Security.

  • Maintain network monitoring and update network monitoring systems.

  • Participate in troubleshooting network outages and performance issues.

  • Be available as an escalation point for Data Network Specialists.

  • Comply with all accepted change control procedures.

  • Work with equipment vendors to support availability, performance and provide troubleshooting.

  • Perform and assist with all network audit compliance and remediations.

  1. Assist in project work.
  • Contribute and assist with project tasks assigned by Sr. Engineers and/or Architects to support and integrate enterprise technologies.

  • Own and manage network installations projects and upgrades from start to finish and communicate project updates and results to Sr Network Engineers and/or Architects.

  • Assist in training and supporting new staff.

  • Bachelor's degree (additional equivalent experience may serve as a substitute)

  • 4 yrs. data network experience

  • Must have a proven history of implementing and troubleshooting networks using best practice design techniques

  • Good knowledge of TCP/IP, switched Ethernet, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), WAN topologies (P2P, VPN, leased line, MPLS), VoIP, WLAN, network security, network monitoring and management, and application delivery optimization, Cisco ISE

  • Experience in configuration and management of Cisco 6500 (and smaller) switches and 7600 (and smaller) routers

  • Ability to acquire 6c level clearance including IRS and Dept of Education

  • Ability to work independently and within groups

  • This position will support a federal government contract. Applicants must be able to obtain Public Trust security clearance as required of federal government contractors to include a background check conducted by the U.S. Government to determine eligibility and suitability for federal contract employment for public trust or sensitive positions. For this level of clearance, applicants must possess U.S.citizenship.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • F5 Local Traffic Manager and/or equivalent content management delivery appliances

  • Thorough understanding of firewall technologies. Additional consideration for Juniper, Cisco, Sidewinders

  • Data Network management and monitoring systems (e.g. HP NA, LiveAction, Solarwinds, OpNet, OpsWare NAS, MRTG)

  • Background and/or working knowledge of programming languages

  • Cisco certifications a plus
