Northrop Grumman Defense Systems Sector is seeking an experienced Linux Systems Engineer/Administrator to join our team of qualified individuals. The position will be located in Fairfax, VA . The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Defense Travel System Program (DTS). The DTS program provides travel booking, expense management, and travel data analytics to the Department of Defense (DoD). Throughout the project, the team will be working closely with the DoD customer to prioritize functionality, structure sprints, and deliver rapid iterations.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems and in accordance with customer's security policies and directives.
Tasks may include coordination with network administrators and other team members
Provide 24x7x365 System Administration to include virtualization, security remediation, and patching
Ancillary duties may include tasks such as, but not limited to:
setting up administrator and service accounts,
maintaining system documentation, and
tuning system performance
Support planning, deployment, maintenance, and enhance system baseline configurations and security posture through administrative, preventive, detective, and reactive controls, such as system baseline management, change and configuration management, anti-virus measures and patch management.
Maintain technical expertise in all areas of computer hardware, Linux operating system software, security and supporting technologies and protocols.
May propose solutions to management to ensure all system requirements are based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings.
Prepare or ensure that appropriate system documentation exists, including operational instructions.
Work independently or as a member of a team on complex tasks.
Bachelor's degree in a technical/IT related field and a minimum of 10 years related experience; or a Master's degree and minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
A minimum of 6 years Systems Administration experience with Linux systems.
Experience loading and configuring RedHat Linux operating systems and performing problem resolution.
Experience performing system backups, maintaining archives, and data recovery.
U.S. citizen and able to pass a background investigation for a Privileged (IT) position of Public Trust (post hire).
Must have a current Linux LPIC-1 or LPIC-2 certification or equivalent Linux certification.
Must have a current Security+ CE certification or equivalent Security certification.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, handle stressful situations, prioritize workloads and schedules and solve problems
Experience working with Storage Area Networks and Network Attached Storage.
Current, active Secret or Top Secret Clearance.
Experience with Unix/Linux monitoring tools.
Experience installing a variety of applications on Linux/Unix platforms.
Experience with installing, configuring and troubleshooting Veritas, Apache, Tomcat, and Java applications software.
Experience with Linux operating system and VMware security hardening and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
Ability to manage assigned tasks, interact with internal and external customers and development teams, and clearly communicate status information.
Highly driven, self-managed individual who demonstrates initiative and proactively seeks solutions to problems.
Hardware / OS performance analysis and tuning, enhancements and corrective actions.
Knowledge of Subversion/JIRA (on UNIX/Linux), writing shell scripts in languages such as Perl and SHELL.
Knowledge of working with a configuration management tool such as Ansible.
