PROGRAM CHAIR, JUSTICE

FACULTY OF HEALTH AND COMMUNITY STUDIES

The Justice Diploma program is a new area of business for NorQuest College. The Chair of this program will be an individual who is passionate about teaching, academic excellence, and leadership. This individual will bring industry connections to the program as well as provide strong academic and operational oversight to it.

This position begins March 4, 2019.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Faculty/Staff Support and Development

  • Participate in recruitment decisions and orientation of faculty and staff

  • Promote professional development of faculty and staff

  • Assign workload

Departmental and College Planning

  • Promote the benefits of, and advocate for the needs of, the program or support area

  • Develop operational and financial plans

Student Success

  • Promote and support the implementation of sound androgogical (adult educational) strategies

  • Develop and review program admission criteria

  • Monitor overall student academic performance

  • Foster a sense of community among students

  • Identify and address academic issues as needed

  • Provide academic advising for students as appropriate

Program Maintenance and Development

  • Lead program reviews and/or accreditation reviews

  • Ensure curriculum is relevant, current and sustainable

  • Lead and execute process improvement initiatives within the portfolio

  • Develop and report on key performance measures within your team

Internal and External Liaison

  • Provide timely and accurate communication with key stakeholders

  • Develop and maintain active program advisory committees as required

Educational Activities

  • Advocating for learners

  • Using teaching and learning strategies

  • Developing curriculum

  • Evaluating

  • Pursuing applied research or professional scholarly activities

Special Projects or classroom teaching as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in a Justice-related field; Ph.D. considered an asset

  • 3-5 years’ experience teaching or working in a post-secondary environment

  • 1-2 years’ experience working in a Justice-related field

  • Demonstrated expertise in managing projects, managing staff, and/or leadership

  • Strong collaborative skills with demonstrated experience in managing stakeholder relationships and working successfully on teams

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in strategic planning would be considered an asset

  • Experience managing diverse teams or working in intercultural environments would be considered an asset

SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time Faculty position.
