Job Summary

The Animal Caretaker II, under supervision, provides responsible care for experimental animals and related facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identifies animals.

  • Observes and makes records of hospitalized animals’ appetites and excrements.

  • Observes animals to report needs for special attention.

  • Recognized subtle difference in animal behavior and appearance.

  • Receives and implements special care and special diet for certain animals.

  • Prepares basic animal food.

  • Feeds and waters animals.

  • Cleans and disinfects animal housing facilities and feeding equipment.

  • Operated and maintains mechanical equipment.

Minimum Requirements

Required Education – High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience – Two years experience in animal care.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Oral and written communication skills.

Registration, Certification, or Licensure – None.

Travel – None.

Supervision of Others

This position will not require direct supervision of others, but will require the ability to work with project personnel in the Cattle Fever Tick Portfolio within the Institute.

  • Ability to handle livestock
