JOB REQUIREMENTS: Structural Engineer/Assistant Inspector#1910 Responsibilities: Successful candidate participates in structural inspections including underwater and climbing inspections of bridges, dams and overhead signs. Participates in the inspection program performing field inspections, load rating analyses, condition state and inventory coding and QA/QC reviews. Consults with inspection team leader, project manager and project engineers concerning deficiencies on the structure for appropriate action. Compiles information needed for the inspection reports and assists with responding to comments from project manager, lead engineer, inspection team leader, structure owners, departments of transportation or regulatory agencies. Coordinates inspection details directly with inspection team leader, project managers, technicians, and clerical staff during preliminary and final report preparation in order for quality control and conformance to standards. May also assist in the engineering of various types of highway and pedestrian bridges and other structures; check design computations and plan detailing for conformance with code, manuals, and design engineer's directives; review shop drawings; coordinate with design engineer during preliminary and final plan preparation; and perform drafting tasks using CAD when necessary. Experience with the inspection, design or rehabilitation of bridges and other highway-related structures ideal. Construction inspection experience beneficial. Experience with SCUBA diving and rock-climbing a plus. Ability and willingness to travel throughout the country, sometimes for as long as two weeks at a time, required.
