Job Description Summary
BD, also known as Becton Dickinson, provides pen needles for the care of Diabetes patients globally. The plant, based in Dun Laoghaire, runs 24/7 and is the Worldwide Centre of Excellence for Pen Needle Manufacturing within the BD organization, producing 4.6 billion medical devices annually. Here we employ approximately 450 people across Operations, Engineering, Quality and R&D.
As we move into our 50th year here in Dun Laoghaire, we are ramping up to commence production of the newest BD product to support the diabetes market in our high-speed manufacturing facility.
With all these exciting developments taking place we are recruiting an Automation Technician - Development.
The Automation Technician will support the development of new and improved production equipment along with the upgrade of existing equipment.
Key responsibilities will include:
Provide automation controls support to the site development function with introduction of new equipment, materials, products and processes;
Develop an in-depth knowledge of all control systems currently in use across the entire site including PLC’s, motion systems, vision systems, electrical & safety systems and networks;
Provide inputs into design reviews, ensuring equipment is optimized for safety, quality, automation, capacity and waste perspectives;
Work closely with engineers and cross functional teams in monitoring and improving equipment performance using proven troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques;
You will have to liaise with equipment vendors to continuously improve the equipment control systems, reducing downtime and waste. This will include vendor site visits, updating documentation and training as required.
The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of Automation Systems (Controls, Vision, Mechanical and Electronic) associated with high volume manufacturing equipment and hold a Third Level Qualification in one of those disciplines or an National Craft Certificate together with additional specialised training and experience.
Relevant industrial experience working in a high-volume manufacturing environment is essential for this role;
At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role with Equipment Automation, Software or related experience;
Proficient in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation PLC products with an ability to understand complex programming functions and write code from specification;
Experience of High Speed Vision systems (Cognex) and Control Networks & Communication Systems (ControlNet, DeviceNet, Ethernet);
Good understanding of Motion Control Systems (Allen Bradley, Emerson, Linmot);
Experience of development, deployment & maintenance of SCADA / HMI systems (Allen Bradley, Schneider);
Have the ability to provide technical support in both the automation/controls and mechanical aspects of high-volume manufacturing equipment;
Proven ability to apply a scientific approach to problem solving, blending analytical and experimental skills to maximise equipment performance;
