Hirschbach Motor Lines Truck Detention Specialist in Dubuque, Iowa

Job Summary

The Truck Detention Specialist oversees the operational utilization of Hirschbach?s trucks at shippers and receivers. The Truck Detention Specialist?s goal is to decrease truck detention to less than 2 hours at shippers and receivers, increase truck utilization. This position will help operations understand and control how our trucks and drivers are being detained.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitoring reports and lists of trucks to complete the picture of where Hirschbach?s trucks are being detained and how to increase utilized.

  • Calling shippers and receivers to get accurate information on the status of our trucks being loaded/unloaded.

  • Updating estimated time of completion (ETC) of trucks at receivers.

  • Tracking truck detention at customers.

  • Working closely with the trailer detention team, planners, CSRs, and driver managers to ensure we are creating win-win situations for everyone involved.

  • Promptly answering phone calls, e-mails, voicemails, and other questions from co-workers and drivers.

  • Other duties as assigned by management.


  • Shifts are available on days, nights, and weekend hours.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills via telephone, email, and in person

  • Ability to make quick and precise decisions

  • Strong multi-tasking, time-management, customer service, and organizational skills

  • Computer proficiency and ability to navigate between multiple programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Transportation/Logistics/Supply Chain, or a related field is preferred.

  • Understanding of dispatch philosophy and procedures of the company.

  • Previous experience with AS-400, Geotab, Electronic Logbooks, Netgraf, and Reefertrak/Orbcomm
