Lead CSA Engineer (Civil, Structural and Architectural)


We are seeking talented Lead Civil Structural Engineers with experience in leading middle and large-scale projects (TIC of EUR 30m to 300m) in the downstream refinery and chemical/petrochemical markets.

Your personality:

  • You have excellent leadership (large teams) skills in engineering with ability to handle complex multi-office projects;

  • You have been carrying the responsibility for the project success and feel comfortable in providing guidance and strong direction for the entire CSA team;

  • Planning and managing the work comes naturally for you including managing the financial aspects of the discipline, man-hour estimates and margin goals;

  • You are an excellent communicator and you have strong co-ordination skills and you can work as an efficient team with Project Management and other disciplines, both within Jacobs and that of the client;

  • You have a demonstrated experience in handling large (20 ) teams of engineers spread across several locations (experience with workshare);

  • You like to keep track of the latest technologies and you get a kick out of developing and implementing these technologies and methods to improve the efficiency, accuracy and productivity of the department;

  • You have a strong sense of responsibility and you ensure that the quality management system is being followed (including any special contractual requirements);

  • Health and safety is nr #1 for you and you take personal responsibility for safety and a healthy environment on the projects, of course you demonstrate this by example

  • You are somebody that is flexible to travel intra- and inter-continentally on a regular basis

Your responsibilities:

  • Predictability & control: You ensure work is carried out competently and effectively within schedule, budget, quality and that project objectives are met;

  • You provide overall supervision and leadership of discipline project teams of engineers and designers. We expect you to develop a productive and cohesive team;

  • You develop and coach junior engineers within the discipline project team;

  • You conduct performance assessments/feedback and development conversations with your staff;

  • You maintain effective communication with project team members, customer and all interfaces;

  • You ensure integrity of work scope and that work is carried out in accordance with applicable codes and standards;

  • You are responsible for man-hour and schedule estimates;

  • You pro-actively identify issues that impede project progress and reports to Project Management;

  • Showing a high level of safety awareness

The role of Lead CSA engineer is a key leadership role, being responsible for the day to day supervision and coordination of CSA engineering and design team assigned to a project. Part of this role would be inter-office work-share coordination which is mostly executed with the Jacobs offices in Mumbai, India.

The Lead CSA Engineer reports functionally to the Discipline Manager and operationally to one or more Project Managers. Input and leadership will be delivered in the conceptual design, project specification, FEED, basic engineering, extend basic and detailed design phases.

Our office in The Hague has a specific market focus on Engineering, Procurement, Construction management and Consultancy. We provide EPC & EPCm solutions to the petrochemical, chemical, oil and gas and refining markets. We currently have a staff strength of 1000 employees and growing rapidly.


Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering with proven leadership experience in refinery / petrochemical markets. Experience in upstream oil and gas, fertilizers / mining will also be considered if the leadership experience is well demonstrated.

Has a proven track record of being responsible for large teams of engineers and designers

10-15 years of engineering experience with concrete and steel structures

Extensive experience in petrochemical industry (minimum 7 years)

Multi-office project experience

Competent in STAAD pro

Strong knowledge of Euro Codes

Other Requirements:

Dutch and German language are also highly preferable

Amount of Travel: flexible for travelling

Able to travel freely within Europe without sponsorship
