The Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of /*Clinical Laboratory Technologist */with in the Division of Health Protection, Public Health Laboratory located in Decatur, GA.

Job Responsibilities:

/*Clinical Laboratory Technologist */work as generalists or specialists in the laboratory, performing analyses of human tissue, body fluids and environmental sources, such as food and water. These tests may be basic to highly complex, and encompass knowledge of microbiology, chemistry, immunology and other disciplines, all performed under a quality management system. Work is performed under the general direction of a technical supervisor, and is compliant with regulatory requirements.

_Primary Duties & Responsibilities_:

  • Provide testing to support the Ryan White program. Responsible for adherence to DPH policies outlined in Public Health Information Library. These policies include but are not limited to; working when scheduled, requesting and using sick and annual leave appropriately, following dress code, properly using state property, following official business during working hours, following the chain of command, from immediate supervisor up the to the Laboratory Director, if necessary to attain problem resolution.

  • Abides by all regulatory and Clinical laboratory rules and regulations.

  • Responsible for adherence to DPH policies outlined in Public Health Information Library. These policies include but are not limited to; working when scheduled, requesting and using sick and annual leave appropriately, following dress code, properly using state property, following official business during working hours, following the chain of command, from immediate supervisor up the to the Laboratory Director, if necessary to attain problem resolution.

  • Abides by all regulatory and Clinical laboratory rules and regulations.

  • Properly manages inventory, receives inventory for the unit, rotates current inventory, signs packing slips and provides them to Manager, notifies proper employee that inventory as arrived, and stores/handles inventory when necessary

  • Assures that the testing environment, equipment, reagents, quality control, and specimen integrity meet established procedures.

  • Follows approved established procedures for performing testing 100% of the time.

  • Maintains accurate quality control/QA records for all testing performed including, but not limited to, daily, weekly, and monthly reporting.

  • Performs and documents preventative maintenance and function checks on all laboratory equipment (in-use), according to specific guidelines.

  • Ensures that results and reports are entered into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) correctly; determined by review and observation

  • Meets Turn-Around-times (TATs) for testing within established parameters. Notifies Supervisor if TATs cannot be met.

  • Assists in bench training of new personnel through following a training plan approved by the Supervisor/Manager. Helps to provide an understanding of new methodologies/techniques to fellow employees. Updates Supervisor/Manager of trainee(s) progress utilizing appropriate documentation weekly.

  • Documents competency including initial training, six-month, and annual review. May supervise lower level staff* Establishes validity of test results, performing required quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of analyses. Report abnormal/unusual results to supervisor following established guidelines based on specimen status. *Accurately documents interpretations of results in appropriate computer and/or manual logs within established time frames.

Bachelor's degree in a related science area from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience in a clinical laboratory AND certification as a Medical Technologist, MT (ASCP) or equivalent.
