Postdoctoral position in surgical robotics within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Dallas. The position will focus on developing novel technology for improved surgical training.
Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D in a related field.
Preferred Education and Experience
Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science. Candidate should be proficient in Matlab and C++. Prior use of Robot Operating System (ROS) and/or CHAI 3D is preferred. The candidate should also have significant experience conducting human-user studies. Experience with systems such as commercial haptic devices, the RAVEN, or da Vinci Research Kit is preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Research in novel technology to improve surgical training and education. The position will require preparation and submission of research manuscripts, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in research, and additional professional development activities.
The goal of the HeRo Lab at UTD is to develop novel robotic technology for improved medical intervention or medical training and education.
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to contribute to a new project related to style-based automated coaching for robotic surgery. The candidate will assist with building up a surgical system in our laboratory (da Vinci Research Kit), and will conduct independent research with the system, leveraging his/her area of expertise. Our lab, co-located at UT Southwestern Medical Center, will provide ample resources for this project, including dVRK, standalone surgical simulator at UTSW, dedicated full robot for surgical training at UTSW, and access to many surgical robotic experts, trainees and training staff.
The ideal candidate is one who is eager to apply his/her existing expertise in robotics, controls, machine learning, or human motor control, to new areas in surgical education and training.
