Baylor Scott & White Health Patient Safety Officer in Dallas, Texas
The Patient Safety Officer will be the designated leader in one or more hospitals for providing leadership and expertise in the delivery of safe patient care. In doing so, the Patient Safety Officer will integrate information obtained from the reporting of adverse events, near misses and concerns related to clinical risk, patient complaints or other safety issues. With this information the Patient Safety Officer will analyze findings and will work collaboratively to develop responsive programs that enhance an organizational culture that supports patient safety. When adverse events result in suboptimal patient outcomes, the Patient Safety Officer critically depends upon the engagement and support provided by the hospital president, physician and nursing leaders and the Director of Health Care Improvement, specific expectations are described for their support. In addition, when adverse events cause harm to patients, the Patient Safety Officer will participate in decision-making regarding the implementation of an early intervention action plan; reviews SSOS (Safety and Service Opportunity System) reports and obtains more detailed information by chart review and interviews as appropriate and participates in events or situations that require Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Process Improvement (PI), or Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA).
The ideal candidate for Patient Safety Officer has the ability to provide leadership and expertise in the delivery of safe patient care; is able to gather relevant data and analyze findings while work collaboratively to develop responsive programs that support a culture of patient safety and result in a reduction of adverse events or hazards; and has the ability create a trusted environment for employees to report concerns and maintains confidentiality as appropriate.
