AECOM System Safety Engineer in Dahlgren, Virginia

Job Summary

Perform a variety of engineering assignments in planning and overseeing the safety analysis of weapons and weapon systems used by the Navy and Marine Corps. Develop system/software safety requirements for weapon systems, combat systems, and platforms. Perform traceability assessments of safety requirements. Perform safety analyses to include hazard identification, control, and tracking. Develop and recommend mitigation strategies for identified hazards. Work with product engineers to implement mitigation into design, test, and/or human procedures. Participate with developers to validate fixes to hazards. Develop safety documentation to support reviews by Navy safety authorities. Participate in safety meetings as needed. Knowledge of MIL-STD-882 system safety requirements is a plus. Complete all other tasks as requested.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree in Engineering, or related scientific field and at least 7 years of job-related experience or equivalent. Excellent communication and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs. The position may require the ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in operational hardware and software. Position may require travel. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working experience in system safety engineering, systems engineering, and testing.

  • Working experience with combat systems, displays, weapon systems, and tactical procedures.
