Job Description:

GDIT provides technical support services to the Office of Acquisition (OA) of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the nation’s largest law enforcement agency. Experienced CSRA personnel enhance CBP’s proficiencies in Systems Engineering, Logistics & Sustainment, and Capabilities and Requirements Development to provide CBP’s agents along our borders with the most capable systems which can affordably be procured. The team provides engineering and analytical expertise across a wide range of disciplines, meeting all DHS Systems Engineering Life Cycle mandated planning analysis and documentation; provide a full spectrum of Integrated Logistics Support; development of Operational Requirements; and conduct Operational Test & Evaluation activities. We help CBP procure the equipment and technology needed to keep the border safe and secure.

Currently, we are seeking a Systems Engineer in Crystal City, VA to join our Systems Engineering team. The selected candidate must currently hold a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance, per contract requirements.

So what is required of a Systems Engineer on a day to day basis? The GDIT Systems Engineer directly supports the Government Lead Systems Engineer (LSE) in providing full program lifecycle Systems Engineering (SE) Subject Matter Expertise (SME) and analysis across the acquisition Systems Engineering Life Cycle (SELC), for a variety of programs. This includes many tasks and responsibilities, such as:

  • Planning and management of a fully integrated technical Systems Engineering effort needed to achieve program objectives

  • Application of SE techniques, processes, and methods and ensures that work is carried out with full adherence and recognition of Quality Assurance and Quality Control, and compliance to DHS and CBP SE standards

  • Is responsible for leading the SELC tailoring for programs as applicable and for leading the effort to prepare the SELC Tailoring Plan document

  • Serves as the technical lead for SE technical matters and for questions pertaining to the proper and effective application of SE practices to the program under his/her span of SE management and control

  • Creates System Engineering strategies and master plans

  • Estimates System Engineering schedule, resources, and costs

  • Assists and provides Subject Matter Expertise and guidance to groups or individuals, within and outside of the Office of Acquisition

  • Chairs applicable technical review boards, Integrated Project teams (IPTs), and Working Groups (WG) as needed

  • Coordinates the efficient use of SE resources

  • Reports technical readiness & status to the acquisition project stakeholders

  • Identifies and utilizes agreed Systems Engineering Best Practices

To qualify, you must meet these basic qualifications:

  • Must be a US citizen

  • US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) suitability clearance

  • BS in Engineering + 9 yrs. related experience, or MS + 7 yrs. related experience

  • Comprehensive working understanding of systems engineering, life cycle logistics, and test & evaluation across all phases of the acquisition lifecycle

  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills including ability to be clear, concise, and persuasive with technical and non-technical audiences

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Able to work in a team environment
