Sutter Health Surgery Technologist (Full Time) in Crescent City, California

The Surgery Technologist (ST or CST if certified) principal function is in the scrub role, providing necessary and appropriate equipment, instrumentation and supplies for all surgical and procedural services provided at Sutter Coast Hospital according to standards and policies of the department and hospital to assure quality patient care. Performs housekeeping duties as necessary and assists in maintenance of supplies and equipment. Provides assistance in emergency procedures as well as scheduled cases. Assists in preparation, transportation and observation of patients. Maintains education in surgical and related aspects of care. Reports to the Manager of Surgery Services. Functions under the direct supervision of the RN in the Operating Room. On a daily basis takes direction from the Charge Nurse. Requires strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills. Requires flexibility to accommodate emergencies as well as changing schedules and priorities. Takes call as assigned.
High School diploma is required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
AA/AS is desired.
BLS for healthcare providers is required.
CST is desired.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills
High school or equivalent. A certificate of completion of a Surgical Technologist Training Program or verification of completion of on-the-job training is required. Basic knowledge of surgical procedures, equipment and supplies. A minimum of 1 (one) year of Operating Room experience in an acute care facility within the past 3 (three) years with competence to function in the scrub role is highly preferred. BCLS certification required. Certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists preferred.
Basic Central Processing techniques and procedures / how to operate sterilizing equipment appropriately. Demonstrated skills in all surgical services provided at Sutter Coast Hospital.
