Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Manufacturing Technology Control Systems Engineer will be a member of the FMRD-Chemical Manufacturing Technology Team responsible for supporting operations while planning and implementing systems around strategic FOF (Factory of the Future) initiatives. The responsibilities range from leadership in online analytical systems design to controls systems interfacing. The Manufacturing Technology Engineer identifies needs through customer requests and personal observation and works to satisfy those needs through appropriate application of software, hardware and processes; performs requirements analysis, planning, design, implementation, quality assurance, and deployment along with cross-functional teams including engineering, maintenance, production and management functions; is aware of local and corporate initiatives and their impact on plant systems; and recommends solutions with an eye toward reusability.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Control software system design and development for FMRD-Chemical factories under Pacesetter and FOF initiatives

  • Lead and coordinate efforts for software reusability across multiple factories

  • Analyze existing applications to identify improvements for maintainability and functionality or compliance with industry and corporate guidance

  • With the manufacturing technology and plant controls teams, identify and prototype best practices, promising technologies

  • Document relevant solution details for developers/maintainers and end-users

Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess a High School Diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • Minimum six (6) years of experience installing, testing, and maintaining process control systems in a private, public, government or military environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution

  • Requirements gathering through customer interaction

  • Experience with Emerson Delta V

  • Experience with Batch software in a chemical factory and the implementation of S88 Batch standards

  • Knowledge and experience with implementing S95 Hierarchy

  • Windows operating systems management experience

  • Experience with networking architecture including TCP/IP, rdp, thin client

  • Familiarity with OSISoft PI

Location: Cordova, IL

Travel: May include up to 20% domestic/international

Relocation: Is authorized
